Every day, thousands of individuals are abused in the form of rape and gendered violence. While many believe this type of abuse only targets women, other common targets include children and men. While some individuals have the strength to come forward after being abused, this is not always the case. There are many victims in the world who you may not know have been abused. These victims may be your parents, siblings, friends, classmates, etc. In today’s society, the abuse is unacceptable. So, together we must decide to take a stand against this form of abuse.
In an effort to combat this problem, as students in Woms 230, we took initiative by having different individuals on campus sign a pledge against nonconsensual sexual activity. Woms 230 has allowed us to see inequality in the world in ways we've never viewed before. It has definitely taught us about forms of injustice which we did not noticed before. Now that we are noticing these injustices, we would like for them to stop.
The members of our group are Khaudejah, Johanna, Amy, Vernita, and our wonderful c/c partner, Andrea, from the department of Health Enhancements. As a group, we are driven by the need to provide justice and equality. We understand that we may not be able to solve all of the world's problem, but any start is a good start. We only ask that you see the need for change in the world and that you actively engage in any form of reformation of inequality and injustice. Remember, no action is too small!
